Cyclocross racers ride skinny tire bikes off road on dirt and grass with a tiny bit of pavement or gravel mixed in. It is a good time if you are a fan of tight “rubbing is racing” action. What makes it even more interesting is when the crowd gets into the event and rings bells and mixes insults with encouragement. Harrisonburg scored top marks in all of these categories!! Mike Carpenter and Thomas Jenkins really rolled out the loud welcome carpet to all the participants. Travis “Metro” Williams was also a huge contributor with his beverage hand up on the run up section. It was no holding back for the kids races too. Issiah O’Neil amazing the crowd was a super sweet side around for the run up. Conrad Bishop had the crowd roaring with his superman dive on the same tricky corner when he came in hot and slammed his dads back wheel. Jeremiah Bishop had underestimated his sons speed and was a bit perplexed to see his son flying across the ground head first like he was stealing home base. It was an exciting weekend of bike racing right here in Westover Park. Look for the 3rd Annual Rocktown Cyclocross Festival in the fall of 2013.
