On August 25th and 26th roughly Twenty five Shenandoah Valley Bicycle Coalition members and friends headed to the far edge of the George Washington National Forest to work on a portion of the Wild Oak Trail; a National Recreation Trail, and a gem for outdoor recreation of all types.  Breaking from our usual form of recreation (biking), we decided that hand tools would best serve our fun for the weekend.  From small maintenance projects like cleaning existing rock drains to the much larger efforts of moving entire sections of tread to create gentle grade reversals, this first push of trailwork has already done much to help with the water management this trail requires.

Future trailwork sessions (check www.svbcoaltion.org) will continue on this piece of the Wild Oak Trail and on the Tillman West Trail on Narrowback Mountain. We are building up matching hours for our latest $125,000 grant. We need your help to amass enough matching hours. If you can’t lend your time then we ask that you please contribute monetarily to help the cause of great trails in the our National Forest West of Harrisonburg.
