TONIGHT 6/8/2015) Lynn Cameron from the Friends of Shenandoah Mountain group, will give a brief overview of the proposal at our June social (6/8) in the basement of Clementine (Ruby’s).

We all know that Shenandoah Mountain is a special place. The massive (for an eastern Forest) contiguous block of National Forest land west of Harrisonburg is punctuated by peaks like Reddish and Flagpole Knobs. The large block of public lands laced with trails is one of the reasons that Harrisonburg is a mountain bike and outdoor recreation hot spot. We have something special in the valley and for over a decade there has been a strong coalition of groups who strive to provide greater protection for the area while still retaining the phenomenal outdoor recreation opportunities that we all love. Read more about it on WMRA (http://wmra.org/post/new-plan-offers-protection-shenandoah-mountain)

The Friends of Shenandoah Mountain Proposal is co-chaired by Lynn Cameron and Thomas Jenkins. The proposal was crafted with several representatives from the mountain bike community including, Thomas Jenkins, Rich Edwards, Chris Scott. The proposal calls for congressional protection of Shenandoah Mountain but would keep nearly all the trails open to bicycles and all roads would remain open to vehicles. There would also be no net loss in trail mileage and hopefully the Shenandoah Mountain Trail would be opened through Ramseys Draft Wilderness.

Come out and learn more about the Friends of Shenandoah Mountain Proposal and ask Lynn Cameron questions about the progress of the campaign.
