Turner Ashby High School was selected as one of the 15 finalists for the $100,00 Dream Big Teacher Challenge which will bring $100,000 to build a 1 mile paved walking/biking track around the school for students and community members alike.  See WHSV’s coverage here.  To make this happen, we need your support!  Vote here up to once per day from October 1 through November 30 to help TAHS win.

Here is Cindy Ferek, TAHS PE teacher and grant author, talking about the project:
You must be 18 years of age to vote and can vote 1 time per day on the www.thankamillionteachers.com website. Tell people on social media, word of mouth, phone, whatever it takes!!   We are in the Eastern region and we are only competing against 2 other schools!  We are the ONLY Virginia school competing.  So vote for our program and help us to build a 1-mile paved trail around our property.  It will be a multi purpose trail for walking, biking, rollerblading, golf carts with our driver ed program, and our students in a wheelchair can access parts of the property that they have never seen before.  We will paint lines on the course for our roads (yellow, white, broken, solid) and wil even have a traffic circle to blend converging roadways…[$100,000] is a lot of money and will fulfill a 17-year dream I have had to build a trail for anyone in the community to use and a roadway system for the bike program I created at Turner Ashby High School. Thanks for your support and what a great opportunity for our community!
Let’s support Cindy and her efforts to increase walking and biking in Rockingham County!  Go ahead and vote!
