The annual SVBC Earth Day Tillman Road trash pickup took place on Saturday 26-APR-2014. There were nineteen volunteers and about as many pickup trucks gathered at the Dog Graveyard on Tillman Road at 09:00. Speeches were made, agreement signed and the newly empowered federal employees took to the road side and woods to root out all kinds of foreign objects. Discarded tires seemed to be in fashion this year with a total of 18 picked up. One extremely ambitious crew also tackled a portion of FR 95 toward Leading Ridge where a long existing dump site had existed. By 11:30 all the bags and tires were resting along Tillman Road near Narrowback West trailhead. I would like to personally thank the volunteers for their time and equipment. Especially useful was Joel’s dump trailer and pseudo bike rack. See high tech trash pickup at work in the picture below.

Thanks to Tim, RJ, Roland, Erin, Jason, Joel, Marcia, Tom, Jessica, Jillian, Miranda, Vince, Connie, Lynn, Doug, Seth, Maria, and John. It was a beautiful if not a bit buggy day and you all made our little piece of the planet a much nicer place to be!

Wonder where Tillman Road is located? Well it happens to be at the center of some of the best mountain biking in our area. Just east of Tillman road is Narrowback Mountain and recently rehabilitated trails thanks to the Shenandoah Valley Bicycle Coalition’s Federal grant work to rebuild the Tillman West trail and the Tower trail. See a description of a great loop to ride on a new mapping site. MTBproject.com “Narrowback Mountain
