Big thanks to everyone who’s helped bring Hillandale back to life this spring!
Over the past 6 weeks, volunteers from the SVBC have spent their Thursday evenings clearing trees, marking mud holes, and re-routing trails. Our last Hillandale trail work day is this Thursday, April 18th. Please join us if you can!
This winter was rough on the park, and it took almost 50 hours of chainsaw work to cut all of the fallen trees off of the tread. Four students from JMU’s triathlon club also spent an evening pulling brambles and invasive species out of the trail corridor.
Last Thursday, nine volunteers roughed in a new trail in under 3 hours to get traffic off a particularly muddy old section. In the picture above, you can see trail work leaders Marshall and Tony freelancing until dark to make sure the project gets completed.
The club would like to specially thank Basil, Shannon, Sam, and Nick for joining us on several evenings. We couldn’t have finished all that chainsawing without you guys.
The end of this year’s Hillandale trail work means the beginning of Massanutten trail work. We look forward to seeing you out there!
