DONATE NOW to help us complete $300,000 of trail building in 2016

We have been talking an awful lot about all of the federal grant money that the Shenandoah Valley Bicycle Coalition secures to improve our trails in the George Washington National Forest. Well 2016 continues to be a red letter year for the SVBC in our quest to improve the trails in our National Forest. In 2016 we are on pace to spend a total of $300,000 of federal grant money in YOUR National Forest.

Where are we working now? Wolf Ridge (SM100 Trail) and Carr Mountain (VA Mountain Bike Trail)

We’ve told you before but these grants require us to come up with 20% match. While some of the match is in volunteer labor hours (your time in the National Forest is worth $26 an hour) we do need to come up with some cold hard CASH to match these federal grant dollars. Can’t volunteer? Please consider DONATING NOW We plan to spend about $75,000 each on Wolf Ridge and on the Carr Mountain Trail. The latest reroute on Wolf Ridge is finished and ready for you to ride! In the meantime, please, please, please, consider donating to help us raise the money we need to finish these projects.

Or, checks can be made payable to Shenandoah Valley Bicycle Coalition (or SVBC) and mailed to:

The SVBC is a 501 (c) (3) organization.  All monetary donations are tax deductible.

DONATE NOW to help us complete $300,000 of trail building in 2016

The Shenandoah Valley Bicycle Coalition is always busy dreaming up how we can continue to improve the trails in our National Forest. The George Washington National Forest and specifically, the North River Ranger District (just west of Harrisonburg) is one of the largest contiguous tracts of public land east of the Mississippi. It is no coincidence that it is a big part of why Harrisonburg is recognized as the Bike Capital. If you have ridden in the National Forest and checked out some of our world class trails then you have probably already ridden some of our handiwork. Past trail projects include, Narrowback, Lookout, Wolfe Ridge, Tearjacket, Chestnut, and more.

DONATE TODAY

All of these projects have been undertaken with federal grants funded through the Recreational Trails Program involve the SVBC spending cash up front to pay professional trail builders to build amazing new trails in our National Forest. In March of 2016, we started work on projects on our THIRD Federal Recreational Trails Grant. We are ecstatic to announce that by the end of 2016 we will have spent over $550,000 to improve our backyard playground. These trails are not only for mountain biking and are open to all non-motorized users (hiking, running, horses). Will you DONATE NOW?

Like all good things, there is a catch, the grant requires matching funds from the SVBC and our partners. Since we are on the line for 20% of $300,000 we are looking at upwards of $70,000 in match. The good news is that this match can come in several ways and does not all need to be cash. In fact, we aim to use volunteer trail work days to bank in-kind contributions to be used as match. While in-kind match is important, we ultimately will need CASH, especially if you can’t make a volunteer trail work day in the National Forest (sorry Massanutten does not count).  Will you DONTATE TODAY? Learn more about all of the projects below.

We need your help. Can you donate?

Any amount helps but know that we need raise at least $10,000 by this summer. You can use Paypal or mail us a check. If you would like to mail us a check please mail to:
