THIS EVENT TAKES PLACE on October 15 (classroom portion) and October 16 (in the field). REGISTRATION IS FOR A TWO-DAY EVENT -Your registration commits you to attending both days.

• October 15: Held at Massanutten Resort and Conference Center
• October 16: Held on the Massanutten Western Slope

With additional first aid training, this course can result in your Forest Service card to help you buck fallen trees across trails. This training costs the Coalition to run, so please respect our investment and commit to the training.

Ready to take your trail stewardship to the next level? Join us for a Chainsaw Sawyer Training, led by the Appalachian Conservation Corps, on October 15 and 16 at the Massanutten Western Slope.

• Thursday, October 15: Classroom portion at Massanutten Ski Lodge, first floor (Sun Room). 4614 Massanutten Dr, Massanutten, VA 22840
• Friday October 16: In the field on the Western Slope Trails

This hands-on training will equip you with the essential skills and safety knowledge to operate a chainsaw effectively and responsibly for trail maintenance and restoration. Whether you’re a seasoned volunteer looking to expand your expertise or new to trail work, this course will provide valuable certification and experience in sustainable trail stewardship. This training is required in order to operate a chainsaw on the Western Slope Trails. With additional first aid certification, you can receive your Sawyer card to legally operate a chainsaw on US Forest Service Trails.

What to Expect:

• Plan on 8:30 am – 4ish pm both days
• Expert instruction from Appalachian Conservation Corps professionals
• A classroom day (Thursday) where you will learn proper safety and handling
• Hands-on practice in a safe, controlled environment
• The satisfaction of giving back to the trails we love!

Who Should Attend:
This training is ideal for interested volunteers who are passionate about keeping our trails clear and safe for all riders and hikers. No prior chainsaw experience is required—just a willingness to learn and a love for the outdoors.
