The Big Dig Day is a volunteer trail-building and maintenance event on the Western Slope of Massanutten.
It’s more than a volunteer workday—it’s a fun, family-friendly day in the woods with friends old and new. As a bonus, you can complete the volunteer hours required for your annual Western Slope trail pass in a single day!
No prior trail-building experience is necessary. We’ll provide on-site training and instruction so everyone can work safely, confidently, and effectively.

• What: A day of trail work and community as we improve and celebrate the Western Slope trails
• Where: Massanutten’s Western Slope near Keezletown. Meet at the pavilion.
• Parking: Use the main parking lot or the field near the pavilion.
• When: Saturday, October 3, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
• What to wear: Sturdy, closed-toe shoes and long pants
• What to bring: Work gloves, plenty of water, and clothing appropriate for the weather

We’ll gather at the pavilion at 11:00 a.m. to review the day’s plan, then divide into groups and head to our project sites.
At 2:30 p.m., we’ll meet back at the pavilion for burgers, drinks, snacks, and time to hang out together.
