Sunset Park & Waynesboro Traffic Garden
Kids deserve safe, joyful ways to get around. Ready to Ride follows a school bike program through the Office on Youth, where Steve Garron teaches kids to learn balance, braking, signaling, and discover everyday freedom on two wheels. It takes an entire community of families, educators, volunteers, and city partners, to build safer routes and stronger communities.
Why Trails?
The trails themselves are not the end goal — only a means to an end. Featured here is the newest Coalition-led trail at Sunset Park in Waynesboro Parks and Recreation, alongside the Rotary Club Waynesboro Traffic Garden. These spaces give kids real, low-stress places to practice and ride independently.
People power change. One person, one action — like Steve Garron leading Waynesboro Safe Routes to School — can be the first safe ride for a child, and the start of getting around Waynesboro and to school for years to come.
Just as there was the first shovel in the dirt at the Western Slope 30 years ago; a volunteer who organized a group ride; or the neighbor who donated a bike to Bikes for Neighbors — there’s a chain reaction we’re building together.
Current Programs and New Trails Coming Soon
With the new trail at Sunset Park (and four more miles to come in 2026), Kate Collins Middle School launched an after-school mountain bike program this year.
In collaboration with Waynesboro Safe Routes to School, the Office on Youth, and school faculty, the Bike Flex Friday program provides bikes, helmets, and instruction so middle schoolers can ride together. Every Friday, Nick Faircloth led a 30-minute ride on and around the KCMS campus, including Sunset Park — and it was a hit with students!
