The Shenandoah Valley Bicycle Coalition is aware of the recent incident involving a community member dressing in “blackface.” We, The Coalition, recognize the act of dressing in “blackface” is racist, hurtful, and unequivocally wrong. This act does not represent the values of The Coalition. Our mission is to build and foster better communities. Racist actions, regardless of intent, divide communities. We are working in partnership with other community leaders to promote a public conversation about racist actions and their impacts on our friends, families, and neighbors. We strive to intentionally listen and engage with our community demonstrating our willingness to promote positive change and growth. We remain committed to building better communities that are inclusive for everyone.
