The Shenandoah National Park will guarantee you parking if you commit to volunteering to help with the event. Please see below and let us know if you would like to help.
What: The Shenandoah National Park needs out help with their “Ride the Drive” event which is a car-free day on the northern section of the Skyline Drive. From 7am to 5pm the Skyline Drive will be closed to vehicular traffic from Front Royal to Thorton Gap. Bicycles will be welcomed on the drive at this time. Entry is free for the day.
When: Sunday April 23 6:00AM (Event starts at 7AM but you will need to be there for a 6:00AM volunteer briefing)
Where: Front Royal or Thorton Gap to park and then ride along the drive
Volunteer Details: Volunteers will rove “on-bike” portions of Skyline Drive by bicycle during the event. Volunteers would be riding and visible throughout the peak morning hours to help participants with minor needs such as (very minor) first aid or bike repair/issues and also to be able to notify us by radio if there are more serious issues that we need to be aware of such as an accident, serious injury, or bikes racing or acting in an unsafe manner.
