High School Mountain Bike Racing is blossoming across the country and here in Virginia, we have had a vibrant community of high school and middle school athletes along with a calendar full of races including on the SVBC built trails at Hillandale Park. This year marks a big leap for High School Mountain Bike Racing as Virginia joins a National High School Mountain Bike Organization (NICA). The new Virginia Cycling League will now hold races in the fall rather than the spring. More information about the new Virginia League can be found on their website: http://www.virginiamtb.org/

Now that summer is coming to an end and everyone (including myself) is thru traveling, vacationing and having fun, it’s time to get things kicked off for the upcoming Youth race season! We only have a few weeks until the season starts so we need to start practicing before it sneaks up on us (which it already has)! This will be our first get together since the team has re-organized for this fall season. For those of you who are new (which I was back in the Spring) the fall race season is new to us under the NICA League and I am still sorting through all the logistics of how it works and that information will be forthcoming, however let’s start riding!! The VA NICA race schedule is set for this fall and will take place in September and October. Keep in mind though that our goal is to also attend other racing/event/riding/social opportunity’s that may arise outside of the NICA season if the Youth would like to.
All that being said we will meet Monday August 18th for our first Meet/Greet and Ride at the Massanutten Western Slope parking lot at 5PM!
