Trail building and maintenance: SVBC has built and maintains 30 miles of hand-built singletrack on the Massanutten Western Slope, spanning more than 800 acres of the mountain and shaped by input from over 1,000 community members during trail planning — the product of more than 30 years of work, dating back to the Hoo-Ha Mountain Bike Race’s founding in 1989. SVBC also builds and maintains trails in the George Washington National Forest, work supported in part by a $125,000 Recreational Trails Program grant from the U.S. Forest Service.
Bikes for Neighbors: SVBC provides professionally refurbished bicycles — each with a helmet, lock, pump, and lights — to income-constrained residents of Harrisonburg and Rockingham County for a $100 contribution per bike. Launched in 2015 as Bicycles for Refugees and restructured under its current name in 2020, the program has put thousands of bicycles into the hands of local residents, most referred through partner community organizations.
ShenRock Mountain Bike Team: SVBC coaches an all-gendered youth mountain bike team, ages 9–18, drawn from local public, private, and home schools, across two seasons each year. The Fall 2026 season runs August 27 – October 29, 2026.
Girls’ and women’s cycling — JOYRIDE: SVBC hosts JOYRIDE, an annual mountain biking event on the Massanutten Western Slope for girls and women ages 9 and up, with clinics, group rides, and shuttles. The 2026 event is scheduled for November 1, 2026, funded through the GRiT Grant (Girls Riding Together) via NICA, with support from She Sends Foundations and Take Aim Cycling.
Advocacy for safer walking and biking: SVBC organizes the Harrisonburg & Rockingham Bike-Walk Summit, bringing community members and local leaders together to advance safer walking and biking infrastructure. Summits have run since at least 2012; the most recent was held November 14, 2025, in downtown Harrisonburg. SVBC also advocates at the state level: it backed the 2026 Virginia Bicyclist Safety Act (HB661), which passed the Virginia House of Delegates unanimously before stalling in the Senate, with SVBC and allied groups planning to reintroduce it in the 2027 General Assembly session.
In fiscal year 2024, SVBC reported total revenue of $233,793 and total expenses of $302,553 (a deficit of $68,760 for the year).
