We believe that biking should be fun. We believe that change can be playful.
“Biking isn’t the end goal for everyone, but for now, it’s a critical step forward for these neighbors, connecting them to the community and opportunity.”

Our next ride will be on Friday, 5/9 when we will ride to Reddish Knob and then to Flagpole Knob. This will be two out-and-back segments from Briery Branch Gap: first to Reddish Knob on asphalt; then to Flagpole Knob on dirt/gravel. We will meet at the parking area at 9 AM (see the Google map below for driving directions) and start riding around 9:15 AM.
This is one of our easier Forest Road rides with 1,600 ft of climbing in 12 miles. E-bikes are welcome but non-E-bikes will set the overall pace. MTBs are always recommended. See the Ride with GPS map below for the riding route. We’ll take breaks, and plan to be back at the cars by 1. Since this is an out-and-back, you have the option to ride faster, or ride slower and ride less than the full route, as long as you manage your time to arrive back at the cars by the agreed upon time.
Weather looks like temps in the 60s and chance of rain. Bring lunch/snacks, rain gear, and water.
Ride route
drive to ride start
————————-
The Forest-Roads Ride will be all over the Shenandoah Valley, typically within the GWNF.
We like to stay together as a group and we take plenty of breaks to refuel and socialize. But we might not wait for you if you fall too far behind, and we will keep the ride moving along to meet our goals. You should expect some climbing (we’re riding in the George Washington National Forest) on anything from smooth dirt forest roads to double track (think jeep roads). Each rider can and should gauge their ability and turn back early if needed to avoid being left too far behind. Note that there is often no cell service where we ride.
Regarding suitable types of bikes, the group rides a mix of mostly mountain and/or gravel bikes depending on the specific road conditions for that week, and many are e-bikes (with the overall pace set by the non-e-bikes).

The Big Dig Day is a volunteer trail-building event on the Western Slope of Massanutten. Volunteers will work together to build new trails and or maintain existing trails.
This is more than a volunteer day! It will be a fun, family-friendly day in the woods with friends old and new! Bonus… you can earn your annual Western Slope trail pass volunteer hours in a single day!
Prior trail experience is NOT necessary.
On-site training and instruction will allow volunteers to work safely, confidently, and effectively.
We will get together at 11 am to go over a plan for the day and then break up into groups to work on project sites. We will have food ready at 3 pm for our post-event gathering and hangout.
We’ll grill burgers and have drinks for folks and other snacks and food.
RSVPs ARE REQUIRED. Once you’ve signed up, you will receive email notifications with details about the day, including where we will meet. We need a headcount for food/drink and to give you some thank-you gifts.

Register here is advance.
For over 20 years, the Coalition has participated in the Ride of Silence to honor those who have been injured or killed while riding bicycles on our public roads, raise awareness that we are people, and to value our personal safety.
This year, we are going to make it a ride of NOISE and let our voices and presence be known.
Although riders have a legal right to use the road along with motorists, the motoring public often isn’t aware of these rights and is sometimes unaware of the cyclists themselves.
This is a FREE ride, but you are REQUIRED to sign a Waiver: https://waiver.smartwaiver.com/w/60ae846625885/web/
What to Expect: For the Ride of Noise, cyclists will take to the roads together to honor cyclists killed or injured while cycling on public roadways. The ride is FREE and will ride throughout Downtown Harrisonburg.
Following the ride, we invite you to continue riding with the Wednesday Night Social Ride, which will meet at the Court Sq Gazebo.
Date: Wednesday, May 21, 2024
Time: 6:30 PM – 7:00
