We believe that biking should be fun. We believe that change can be playful.
“Biking isn’t the end goal for everyone, but for now, it’s a critical step forward for these neighbors, connecting them to the community and opportunity.”

On Wednesday, April 22, you can support local nonprofits and this movement: svbcbike.org/GCG
The Great Community Give is a one-day, online giving event that brings together nonprofits across the Shenandoah Valley to celebrate generosity and strengthen the organizations that make this region a better place to live. Powered by the Community Foundation, it’s more than a fundraiser; it’s a shared moment where thousands of people come together to invest in the future of their communities.
For the Bicycle Coalition, the Great
Community Give is both practical and symbolic.
On a practical level, it provides critical funding that helps move projects forward. Whether that’s expanding trail access, supporting programs like Bikes for Neighbors, advancing greenway connections, or building the capacity needed to lead larger regional initiatives.
But just as important is what it represents.
The day is a visible reminder that this work isn’t happening in isolation.
It’s powered by a broad base of people who believe in safer streets, better trails, and more connected, active communities. Every gift—no matter the size—is a signal that people value a future where walking, biking, and outdoor access are part of everyday life in the Valley.
For the Coalition, the Great Community Give is about momentum. It’s about turning individual acts of generosity into collective impact—and using that energy to keep building a more vibrant, inclusive, and connected region.

The Big Dig Day is a volunteer trail-building event on the Western Slope of Massanutten. Volunteers will work together to build new trails and or maintain existing trails.
This is more than a volunteer day! It will be a fun, family-friendly day in the woods with friends old and new! Bonus… you can earn your annual Western Slope trail pass volunteer hours in a single day!
Prior trail experience is NOT necessary.
On-site training and instruction will allow volunteers to work safely, confidently, and effectively.
We will get together at 11 am to go over a plan for the day and then break up into groups to work on project sites. We will have food ready at 3 pm for our post-event gathering and hangout.
We’ll grill burgers and have drinks for folks and other snacks and food.
RSVPs ARE REQUIRED. Once you’ve signed up, you will receive email notifications with details about the day, including where we will meet. We need a headcount for food/drink and to give you some thank-you gifts.
