National Forest Trail Work

Because our RTP grant work is so incredibly thrilling, additional dates have been added!

  • Saturday, November 10 on Narrowback
  • Saturday, November 17 on Lookout

Meeting an hour earlier — 8 am at Mr. J’s Bagels on South High Street (42) , or anytime thereafter at the Tower Trail on Narrowback or on Lookout near the Wild Oak parking lot just above the swinging bridge.  Come on down! 

Dates of National Forest Trail Work Days, Fall 2012:

  • Saturday September 22
  • Saturday September 29
  • Saturday October 13
  • Saturday October 20
  • Saturday October 27

Trail Work parties meet at Mr. J’s Bagels on South High Street (42) and leave at 9am to carpool to the woods

Harrisonburg, VA and the surrounding counties are blessed by the presence of George Washington National Forest, which comprises over a million acres of rugged, spectacular public land.

SVBC, its predecessor organization, and its members  have been working with the United States Forest Service to improve and maintain trails in the GW since 1993.

In 2010, SVBC received its first $125,000 Recreational Trails Program Grant.  In August of 2012, SVBC received its second $125,000 RTP Grant.
