SVBC has a new road racing license!
Harrisonburg is renowned for its mountain biking talent; between the pros who reside in the area to the many superb finishes of our local amateurs at races from Massanutten, the SM100, and into the surrounding states of the region, our riders are phenomenal.
We all must wonder though why despite the incredible range of talent among the folks we all see riding the roads all over the county, and especially the speed and brawn that one will find in Tuesday Night World Championships group, doesn’t translate into this same reputation for the ‘roadies’ in local or regional amateur road races.
Now is the time to change this it seems. After several years of very little activity in USA Cycling road cycling races by SVBC members and a few more years of no registered racers, SVBC’s USAC license will finally once again allow members to register for cycling licences under the SVBC name, and most importantly represent SVBC with results earned at races.
In light of this new status, we are seeking interested participants. USAC events have masters categories, open categories, women specific categories, and many have races specific to juniors as well. If you have any interest at all in being involved under the Coalition’s renewed road cycling license, or questions of any sort, PLEASE contact Jamie Doyle via e-mail at ASAP. After interested persons have been identified, we can discuss what is collectively envisioned and proceed. This can be as simple as organizing carpools to some of the local races and the comfort that our racers won’t be alone in the races, or include regular training rides and a more involved team atmosphere depending on what is desired.
But really, isn’t it time we educate the world about what we already know? We have incredibly talented (and all around awesome) folks riding our roads and trails. We aren’t a nationally recognized biking community for no reason.
