This week’s ride will include a very special short hike to a waterfall so be sure to wear or carry walking shoes.

Meet at Mole Hill Bikes at 8AM or at the parking area at 8:30 (Hidden Rocks Trailhead, see map link below). We will ride at 8:45AM, ride about five miles to our hike starting point, hike to the waterfall and return. This is an out-and-back ride and hike. Round trip bike distance is 10 miles with about 800 ft elevation gain (gradual). The surface is mostly typical dirt forest road with some asphalt (little to no traffic). Mountain bike is always recommended but you should be fine on this ride with a gravel bike.
Hike is 2 miles round trip, mostly flat/slight incline. There should be water coming off the falls, but the viewpoint is a bit grown in; you can hike down to the base of the falls for a better view, but the trail is steep and rocky.

The current weather forecast for Friday is low 80s and sunny. Bring a bike lock for the hike portion, walking shoes, snacks, water and sunscreen.

The Piedmont Mobility Alliance and the Shenandoah Valley Bicycle Coalition are joining forces for a combined social gathering to celebrate Waynesboro’s brand-new trail park and enjoy a spectacular view.

Dwane Jones (Director, Waynesboro Parks and Recreation) will discuss Sunset Park and several other nearby projects. Advocates and planners from the Piedmont and Shenandoah areas will also be present.

The gathering is timed to coincide with the park’s titular sunset. Come early if you’d like to hike or bike on the mile of trails that have already been built (a group will get out at 5:30p!). It will be a great chance to meet new people and learn what’s happening on both sides of the Blue Ridge to improve safe, active transportation and recreation.

It’s event is free and all are welcome. Non-alcoholic beverages and snacks will be provided.
