Every Monday evening, something powerful happens on the Massanutten Western Slope, where the spirit of dirt joy thrives.

Women of all backgrounds, ages, and skill levels find camaraderie here. The ride transcends the physical act of mountain biking; it’s an opportunity for women to reclaim their outdoor space, foster friendships, and encourage one another to push their limits.

Women gather, not to compete, but to connect on bikes, dirt, and with each other.

The Women’s Monday Ride is more than just a weekly mountain bike meetup. It embodies the spirit of dirt joy, emphasizing community building and personal growth. Participants are welcomed into a joyful, low-pressure, no-drop ride environment. Each session is designed to accommodate women of all experience levels, whether you’re a seasoned shredder or just learning to navigate singletrack. This is a supportive space where skills are shared, confidence is built, and the love for riding flourishes.

In this short video, you’ll hear directly from the riders about what this ride means to them—and why it matters:

“To me, biking is liberation. It’s community. It’s joy.”

“This is where I feel strong.”

This is what reclaiming trails looks like: women supporting women, riding hard, laughing louder, and making the Western Slope a more inclusive space, one Monday at a time.

We believe trails are for everyone. That mountain biking should be fun. And that change can be playful. The Women’s Monday Ride is proof.

Why This Ride Matters

Mountain biking can be intimidating. The gear, the lingo, the culture—it can all feel like a barrier, especially for people who haven’t historically been centered in outdoor spaces.

The Women’s Monday Ride breaks that down.

Led by volunteers who know what it feels like to be new, this ride is intentionally beginner-friendly while still challenging and exciting. Riders regroup often, share tricky spots, and freely swap tips and encouragement. It’s the kind of space where showing up is enough—where you don’t need fancy gear, years of experience, or a particular kind of body to belong.

And the setting? It’s hard to beat. The Massanutten Western Slope trails—built and maintained with love by Coalition members and volunteers—offer everything from mellow climbs to flowy descents. It’s the perfect place to grow your skills and confidence, surrounded by stunning views and positive energy.

“There are so many ways to move your body and be in nature—but mountain biking lets you feel strong, wild, and free all at once.”

Our Vision: Trails for All

At the Shenandoah Valley Bicycle Coalition, we’re not just building trails—we’re building a culture.

A culture where everyone, regardless of race, gender, income, or ability, feels invited into the outdoors. A culture that values mentorship over competition, joy over judgment, and access over exclusion.

Programs like the Women’s Monday Ride are part of living that vision.

We know that mountain biking will not truly be inclusive until it is intentionally inclusive. That’s why we invest in efforts like beginner rides, affinity spaces, gear access programs, and volunteer opportunities that prioritize representation and belonging.

Our community is stronger when more people feel welcome on our trails. And when more people experience the joy of biking in the woods, our collective movement for healthy, connected, bike-friendly communities grows.

Come As You Are

What makes the Women’s Monday Ride special isn’t the mileage or the terrain, it’s the people.

Week after week, this ride proves that you don’t need to look or ride a certain way to belong on the trail. You just have to show up. And maybe laugh when you fall over in a rock garden.

Whether you’re seeking new friends, a challenge, a mental reset, or just a reason to be outside, this ride is here for you.

Because when we make space for more people on bikes, we all go further.
