Trailblazing Ahead: Stage 1 of the Western Slope Trail Plan Begins

It’s here. The Trails Plan is live. And now, we start building.

Over 1,000 voices shaped this plan for the future of the Western Slope. They asked for better navigation, more beginner access, improved trail flow, bigger adventures, and space for everyone, from first-time hikers to advanced downhill riders.

We’ve mapped out more than 30 miles of potential new trails with Massanutten Resort. Now it’s time to move from vision to reality.

📍 Stage 1 is underway.

What’s in Stage 1?

A Taste of What’s Possible – this first phase lays the groundwork for all that’s to come.

🟢 New Beginner Loop: A complete green loop system with stacked options, perfect for new riders, families, and anyone looking to grow their skills. This will complete the “Red, White, & Blue Loop.”

🔵 Intermediate+ Flow Trail: Think Happy Hour on steroids, twice as long with more flow. (Project F)

⬆️Climbing Trail to Ravine: A dedicated one-way only path from the parking lot to Ravine Trail (we’re building this one now with volunteers)!

🦘Stretch Goal: Jump/flow Trail from Ravine to the bottom. (This one depends on our fundraising success)

🧭 Navigation Upgrades: Trail hubs with maps, signage, and (future) scenic overlook to help all users find their way and explore more confidently.

These first builds are designed to be welcoming, intuitive, and fun, delivering the kind of joyful outdoor experiences our community asked for.

Why It Matters

This isn’t just about new trails. It’s about building something bigger:

  • Expanding Access: More people can have an excellent trail experience the first time.

  • Improving Navigation: So families, hikers, and new visitors feel confident and safe.

  • Growing a Legacy: We’ve built 18+ miles of trail in 20 years. With this plan, we can double that—together.

The Trails Plan is a shared vision. But how fast can we build it? That’s up to us.

We Can’t Build It Without You

The Western Slope is a community-built trail system. Every foot of trail is possible thanks to donors, volunteers, and dedicated partners.

🛠️ Volunteer: Come to a Big Dig Day or join a weekly trail night. No tools or experience needed.
💰 Donate: Your dollars fund tools, signage, and machine time. Every contribution makes a difference.
🌟 Join the Western Slope Team: Help lead the charge—trail work, outreach, and organizing.

Let’s Build the Trails We’ve Been Dreaming About

Stage 1 is just the beginning. But it sets the tone for what’s next: full mountain access, new jump lines, expanded cross-country loops, and deeper backcountry adventures.

We’re ready to build. All we need is you.
