Harrisonburg, Va. – The city of Harrisonburg is in the process of updating the comprehensive plan and getting participation from the community. Harrisonburg Planning Commission and the Planning and Community Development Department are working with members of the community to update the plan, which presents a vision of Harrisonburg’s future.
Four committees have been formed to help guide the conversations of this update and each committee will focus on a different set of topic areas.
The committees are:
1. Land use and transportation
2. Education and culture
3. Community facilities
4. Economic development
Those interested in serving on a committee will need to fill out an application and submit it to the Planning and Community Development Department by March 1. Applications can be found at www.HarrisonburgVA.gov/yourplan. The comprehensive plan identifies steps to move toward that vision by providing information about current conditions, long-term goals and objectives, and potential implementation strategies. The plan serves as a long-term guide for the community and it helps city leaders with setting policies and decision-making.
Members of the public are also invited to learn about the comprehensive plan at one of the following information sessions. Each meeting will be held in council chambers at City Hall, 409 S. Main St.
Wednesday, February 15 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Tuesday, February 21 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Saturday February 25 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.
