2022 Board of Director Election Update

Dear Shenandoah Valley Bicycle Coalition Community,

Your Coalition is in a time of exciting transition. Since hiring an Executive Director in 2019, we have grown and expanded our capacity to further our impact in the Valley. With this expanded capacity, the roles and responsibilities of the Board of Directors are also changing. In recognition of this transition, we are working as a Board to develop and codify our new responsibilities as the Coalition continues to do great work increasing safe and inclusive access to the outdoors in the Valley.

Because of this work, we have not yet held our Board of Director elections for 2022. We paused our elections to dive deeper into our organization and Board development. Through this process, we will be able to clearly define the role of the Board and the pathways to continue growing our impact. As a result, we will be able to provide prospective Board members with clear and fair expectations for their Board service.

It’s unfair to ask anyone to commit to a three-year term without a realistic idea of what that entails, and we are working diligently to make sure we have that in place. While we work to have those expectations in place, we are committed to holding Board elections before November 1st.

We appreciate your patience and understanding, and we will make sure we continue to communicate our progress on the role of the Board and on Board elections.  If you would like to consider serving on the Board, please contact us and join us at a board meeting to get a feel for the work we are doing. Contact us with any questions or ideas for the Coalition or biking and walking in the Valley.

Thank you,

The Coalition Board of Directors
