In 2011, Rockingham County’s Board of Supervisors established the Rockingham County Bicycle Advisory Committee (RBAC). As of March 2013 there are 8 citizen members on this committee. Their mission is to “advise the Board of Supervisors in the promotion, planning, and implementation of bicycle and other non-motorized transportation in Rockingham County.” Visit their website to learn more about their organizational goals, who their members are, and what projects they are working on.
Rockingham County is Harrisonburg Rockingham Metropolitan Planning Organization (HRMPO), along with the City of Harrisonburg, and Towns of Bridgewater and Dayton. Currently neither Rockingham County nor the HRMPO have a bike-specific plan. The HRMPO and Rockingham County began working on their respective Bicycle & Pedestrian Plans in early 2013. Learn more about the HRMPO Bicycle & Pedestrian Plan here. Both plans are being developed with the help of McCormick Taylor and will be completed in late 2013/early 2014.
